On to the next adventure!! Wednesday was a chaotic day of emptying the studio and our home, packing last minute items and then hopping on a train. Some tears were shed as we closed up for the last time, but we take with us so many happy memories of wonderful clients and awesome projects, I cant truly be sad— and I can’t wait to share our new adventures! ❤️ #summersendstudios

Hey friends!

There’s nothing quite like a Nor’easter in April to get us desperately looking ahead to warmer weather… So we’re going to determinedly ignore the snow and power outages right now to share with you some exciting summer news:

We’ll be moving our family and our business to Germany this coming July!

This news likely comes as no surprise to anyone we’ve seen in the last couple years, as we’ve been exploring this idea for a while, and now we’re able to make it happen. The timing feels both a long time coming and way too fast, but here we are!

We’ve been so fortunate with our studio’s success, thanks to the support and patronage of our amazing clients; we really can’t thank you all enough for the positive reviews, word of mouth referrals, and amazing tattoo projects over the years. Our time tattooing here in the Seacoast of NH has been such a rewarding journey, and we are so grateful for everyone who has shared their lives and their stories with us along the way. …but before we get too sniffly and sad, let’s talk about the next couple months!

We will be tattooing until the end of June, and prioritizing clients with ongoing projects first and foremost! We appreciate your understanding as we navigate this process. In case you’re not *too* mad at us for leaving and would like to help and support us in the move… we will be hosting an indoor yard sale at the studio in early July to sell off a mishmash of art prints, photography equipment, furniture and art supplies– stay tuned for more info!

Thanks for everything, really! We’ll be carrying many fond memories with us into these new adventures.

One of the oddest stories from Northrhine Westphal

One of the oddest stories from Northrhine Westphalia is the accident which befell Tuffi the elephant.

In 1950 the travelling Althoff Circus arrived in Wuppertal, and with them their four year old circus elephant, Tuffi. While the circus was setting up, the circus trainer had got into the habit of travelling around whichever town they were in with Tuffi, to advertise the upcoming performances. His favorite way of getting publicity was always to take the little elephant for a ride on the city tram – which inevitably caused a stir and plenty of press coverage.
Of course anyone who has been to Wuppertal will know that this town has a very ususual tramline. Built in 1901, the Schwebebahn is probably the oldest operational suspended railway in the world. It is built on an iron structure which spans the river Wupper.

It was onto just such a train that Tuffi’s trainer decided to take her. The arrival of the elephant at the station caused quite a stir. Many journalists from the local and national press had elected to accompany the elephant on her trip. So when she entered the Schwebebahn carriage, dozens of people pushed in alongside her.

Traveling on the Schwebebahn is not like riding on a tram though. The trains sway considerably more and often pitch at quite odd angles. Normally a very calm animal, with the crowds and the motion this time, Tuffi panicked. First she managed to break one of the seats in the carriage, and then she attempted to get out of the window. Her first attempt only broke the window – but her second effort was successful – the elephant broke a hole in the side of the carriage and jumped… dropping far down into the river below.
Remarkably, Tuffi was unhurt by her unexpected plunge into the river Wupper. Apart from a few grazes, she was able to extricate herself from the water and return to the nearby circus.

Tuffi continued to work at the Circus Althoff through the 1960s, then she was sold on to a French circus where she worked for many years until her death in 1989. Throughout her life she continued to travel happily on trams, but never set foot in the Schwebebahn again.

Visitors are invited to stay in front of the tents and on the food truck meadow or directly at the Kö-Graben and to enjoy the delicacies of the exhibitors. With over 200 exhibitors of upscale gastronomy, and dealers of high-quality and rare gourmet products, the festival has earned a top position among the themed gourmet events in the culinary sector in recent years.

Paris has the Eiffel Tower, New York has the Statue of Liberty – and Wuppertal is known worldwide for its suspension railway. Since its official launch in March 1901, the “steel-hard dragon” (quote Else Lasker-Schüler) has connected the east and west of Wuppertal. Since then, the people of Wuppertal have been greeting “from the city where buses fly” and attracting hundreds of thousands of foreign guests every year. More than 1.5 billion people have already floated through the Wupper valley on the suspension railway.

Königsallee or “kings avenue”. It is one of Düsseldorf’s flagships and the city’s shopping mile. Affectionately known as “Kö”, the street is home to numerous luxurious and well-known brands. But Königsallee is not just a shopping paradise. It is a sight to behold due to its architectural features alone. The restored houses, fountains, bridges and decorated railings give the mile its characteristic appearance. Various elements were developed especially for the Kö: lanterns, bollards, clocks, telephone booths and kiosks are literally specifically made for this space. Pictured you see the green space that runs the length of the avenue. A river that is crossed many times with decorative bridges adorned with beautiful sculptures in stone. The river is lined with trees on either side and sets up a strong contrast between itself the man made architecture on either side.
